I am delighted to have been given the chance to read and review “Triplicity” by J Mercer today courtesy of YA Bound Book Tours.
Triplicity by J. Mercer Genre: YA Contemporary Fiction Release Date: January 2019
About the Book:
One week on an Alaskan cruise, three teens, and an endless trail of lies.
Enter a series of thefts on board and they all fall under scrutiny. Though Navy acts a proper preacher’s daughter, she did end up with someone else’s purse in her hands, and Jesse knows way more than he should about what’s gone missing. Isaiah, however, is the one with motive—enough money and he could get back to his ranch. Each holds a piece of the truth, but exposing the thief could damn them all. They must navigate through the lies they’ve told, choose between standing together or saving themselves, and decide if innocence is worth facing their ugliest secrets. Add to Goodreads
About the Author:
J Mercer grew up in Wisconsin where she walked home from school with her head in a book, filled notebooks with stories in junior high, then went to UW Madison for accounting and psychology only to open a dog daycare. She wishes she were an expert linguist, is pretty much a professional with regards to competitive dance hair (bunhawk, anyone?), and enjoys exploring with her husband—though as much as she loves to travel, she’s also an accomplished hermit. Perfect days include cancelled plans, rain, and endless hours to do with what she pleases.
For updates and news, you can find her on Facebook, but she’s more often on Instagram, talking about what she’s reading and other bookish things. I want to start by mentioning the characters in this book – They are all so interesting to read about and I love that we get to see a little of their back story as well as see what is happening during the story. They are likeable rogues and all have their complexities.
The setting too is an interesting one – a cruise ship! The freedom combined with a limited boundary made the story an exciting one and I loved reading about the day-to-day stuff of a cruise as I have never been on one but would love to!
The only part I didn’t like so much was the romance, but that’s just personal preference and although not something I look for in a book, it didn’t distract me from loving the rest of it!
I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a ‘typical’ YA book with some mystery and adventure in it!
Former Female Motorcycle Club Leader Revs Up All Gears In Stunning New Release
“One of the first rules of Fight Club is that you don’t talk about Fight Club.” The same goes for most, if not all, motorcycle clubs.
Hattiesburg, MS: With shows like Sons of Anarchy, MC (Motorcycle Club) Romance has been a hot commodity in the entertainment world due to popular TV shows, Local Mississippi author, Scarlett Holloway took notice. Spinning her own MC Romance, Policy of Truth which releases February 22, 2019, Scarlett has one big advantage over most undertaking the genre: she actually lived the MC Life.
The result of Holloway’s experiences, being introduced to the MC world by a close family member, and her eventual creation of her own an all-female WMC, is a riveting romantic thriller that delves deep into the club world. And, with this new series, realism is the key, but it’s also touched with romance and the intrigue of mystery. She also tackles subjects which many authors refuse to broach: domestic violence, drug abuse and even suicide. The kicker? Every character in the series is a member of her own street team or friends that have helped her in some way. Holloway does not hide the fact that she was once a victim of domestic violence and wants awareness to reach women out there, that there is help for them.
When asked what her experience in the MC world, Holloway says, “It was rewarding and punishing at the same time. Always on the road having things you had to do, away from your family, tired and sore. At the same time, you are with extended family, making new friends, helping with charities.”
Knowing the ins and outs of club bylaws, and life in general, she wanted to erase popular fiction about stereotypical bikers, and give readers something fresh, and new. In the media, motorcyclists are looked at to be abusive and sexist, and oftentimes, this is perceived to be “sexy.” The truth and attitude definitely show through in Holloway’s writing and every reader would be wise to reach out and get familiar with Holloway’s work. So, grab your favourite blanket, a cup of coffee (or wine) and kick back with her first book in the series, Policy of Truth, and let yourself get lured into the thrill of an all-female MC and the men who desire them.
About the Book
Five years ago, Tamra “Durty” Simon’s life was falling apart, and she had a one-way ticket to six-feet under. And if it hadn’t been for the Death’s Angels Motorcycle Club swooping in, dusting her off, and transforming her into the badass biker she is today, she’d be taking a dirt nap. Now, she has everything she ever wanted—or so she thought.
Brett “Sting” Jackson is on a mission, and nothing is going to stop him—not even the sexy, enticing female biker who makes him hard with a single look. Too bad he’s lying and keeping secrets from her. But the alternative could get her killed, and that’s not a risk he’s willing to take.
It took Sting crashing into her life to make Durty realize there’s something else in this world she wants to ride as hard as her bike—too bad fate has other plans for them. When a rival club makes a move against the Angels, all hell breaks loose. Lives will be lost, secrets will be revealed, and lies will be exposed. Because in the motorcycle world, lies may get you hurt, but the truth can get you killed.

Once again, seventeen-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and
her dad’s career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is,
she’s a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only
company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from
work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to
think she can help them solve their last problems so that they can
move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her
mother and her father’s alcoholism, she’s got enough problems of her own.
But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who
darkens Riley’s door. The young woman’s death wasn’t the
accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face
with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another
spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and
understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape
becoming the killer’s next victim, Riley knows she’ll have to
help Hayden move on too, but what if she can’t let him go?

needs a liver transplant and the one person who could still be a
match is his brother…who also happens to be a gang leader.

and unconscious in his hospital bed. This feels like as good a
time as ever to cross over and put all of them out of their
misery….but Riley is in danger. She’s visiting some of the
most dangerous spots and confronting some of the creepiest low-lifes
in town. For her, he’ll need to regain his strength and fight
to keep her safe.
But dealing with other people’s problems still can’t keep Riley from
her own. Her dad’s drinking has gotten worse. And

horrible secret that will change everything she believes about her
family and her mother’s death.

So I may be nearly 40 (waaaaa!) but C.C’s writing transported me back to being 17 almost immediately due to its clarity and realism. I immediately felt bonded with Riley – her struggles of being the new kid and branded a freak are something that I have, unfortunately, experienced in life so I was rooting for her right from the start. I loved her personality too – she was so down to earth!
The storyline is one that, although a little predictable in places, keeps you reading and wanting more; there are plenty of the ‘usual’ high school dramas but equally, enough new things that keep you intrigued – falling in love with a ghost for one – who me? Uuuhh .. no, not at all … ;-).
The book does end on an epic cliff hanger .. but I was lucky enough to have been asked to read and review the second book so just went straight on to ..
BOOK TWO: ** SPOILER ALERT**
Riley now knows who Hayden is and is visiting him a lot in the hospital, which he isn’t too chuffed about – he doesn’t want her seeing him sick but he doesn’t want Riley dealing with her new project alone. The guy sh’s helping now is a criminal and it means that she’s spending a lot of time in the wrong areas of town with the wrong kinds of people. But Hayden is there to support her.
there are of course all sorts of other trials and tribulations going on at the same time – drugs, best friends feeling left out and in the dark, her fathers drinking, which is getting worse and worse and the never ending quest that is to find out more information about her mother.
The ending is a complete BOMB .. cliff hanger doesn’t do it justice really ..! 😉
Book 3 is going to be called “Three Heart Beats Away” but there is no news from C.C Hunter about when it may be released; As book two was only published in December 2018 I’m guessing we have a wait on our hands .. but it’s on my wish list ready for that day!
